Elizabeth offers high-quality services to adults with speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties as a result of acquired neurological conditions in Guernsey.
A client centred philosophy is adopted by our speech therapy practice and specific services will be based on individual client need. Typically our service includes:
- Comprehensive assessment of speech and language using a broad range of formal and informal speech, language and communication assessments and tools
- Assessment of swallowing including a risk assessment
- Diagnosis of speech, language and swallowing difficulties
- Individualised, person centred therapy plans
- Client centred goal setting
- Working as part of the multidisciplinary team as needed, with case managers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, medical and legal professionals
- Providing support and advice to family and care givers
- Swallowing rehabilitation using a variety of tools and techniques
- Assessment of communication and swallowing of people with tracheostomies
- Assessment and treatment of those in low awareness states e.g. persistent vegetative state, minimally conscious state etc.
- medico -legal/expert witness reports for personal injury, medical negligence, fitness to practice and criminal cases
The people that I work with will usually have one of the following diagnoses:
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
- Acquired Brain Injury (ABI)
- Stroke
- Progressive neurological diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's Disease or Motor Neurone Disease
- Dementia
- Neuro-oncology
We regularly work with people with one or more of these speech and language therapy diagnoses:
- aphasia
- dysphasia
- apraxia
- dyspraxia
- dysphonia/voice
- cognitive-communication difficulties
- dysphagia
- dysarthria
Elizabeth regularly works with case managers providing assessment and treatment to people following brain injury.
